Hey Cory. By "Chris", are you referring to me? If so, while we've had similar problems with comment spam, we haven't implemented anything new yet. We've always required people to have a Gristmill account before posting a comment, though spam still makes it through. We do plan on implementing CAPTCHA (completing a verification code), but this should only thwart bots, not humans. Blocking or throttling by IP address is useless as the comment spam comes from what amounts to random source addresses.
