DIA, I'm sure the more technically adept have better solutions. But fwiw, in my case I dealt with the problem in two steps. First, I created a new user group (in my case I called it "Quarantine") that has no permissions for anything. When I get some spammer that bothers to register to post their spam, I just move them into that user group. If their spam posts continue to populate the site and I don't have enough folks to rate them down into invisibility, I have resorted to directly editing the MySQL db. I'll usually replace the post with some text indicating it has been deleted as spam. A well written sql command will let you do this for many posts at once. I usually only do that when the spammers are overwhelming both me and the legit users trying to rate them down. I think I've only had to do that with anonymous posters as they can put up a lot with their scripts whereas the spammers that register usually only leave a handful that are manageable. hth, Jeff Causey On Saturday 28 April 2007 15:43, Democracy In Albany wrote: > I only allow registered users to comment but i'm getting people signing up > and then populating my archives with links.
