Break things? This is how it should work ...

STEP 1: User posts very long url

Blah blah blah

http://www.domain.com/iamaverylonglinkthatneedstobetruncated

More blah blah

STEP 2: Function adds anchor tags

Blah blah blah

<a
href="http://www.domain.com/iamaverylonglinkthatneedstobetruncated">http://w
ww.domain.com/iamaverylonglinkthatneedstobetruncated</a>

More blah blah

STEP 3: Function truncates display URL while retaining original URL within
anchor tags

Blah blah blah

<a
href="http://www.domain.com/iamaverylonglinkthatneedstobetruncated">http://w
ww.domain.com/iamaverylonglink...</a>

More blah blah

Subject: RE: [Scoop-help] Truncating long URLs

The only real problem I see, is that it's going to break things. If you
don't mind that it will break anything it truncates, then why not? I'd like
to eventually see something that says, "Sorry, your UrL is too log. Try
putting it in an anchor tag, please." but that obviously is going to require
a fairly non-simple change to scoops comment code. :-)
